Barcodes - especially the UPC (Universal Product Code) have become an essential part of modern civilization.
Their use is widespread, and the technology behind the barcodes is constantly improving.
A high resolution material with excellent contrast ratio for accurate, quick reading codes, CodeMARK has been specifically developed for barcode applications.
For ease of application and handling barcode labels are most often supplied in gang format, but can also be supplied on heavier gauges with mounting holes punched. From Bee-hives to warehouse floors, we provide barcoded labels and tags for the most demanding applications.
Some applications include:
Mass Merchandising Retail Chain Membership Cards.
Asset management and tracking.
Tracking of an item of movement (Airline luggage / mail / parcels)
Some 2D Barcodes embed a hyperlink to a web page. A capable cellphone might be used to read the barcode and browse the linked wesite.
Barcodes In Brief
A barcode is an optical machine-readable representation of data. Originally, barcodes represented data in the widths (lines) and the spacing of parallel lines, and may be referred to as linear or 1D (1dimensional) barcodes or symbologies.
The mapping between messages and barcodes is called a symbology.
The specification of a symbology includes the encoding of the single digits/characters of the message as well as the start and stop markers into bars and space, the size of the quiet zone required to be before and after the barcode as well as the computation of a checksum.
There is a large variety of 2D symbologies. The most common are matrix codes, which feature square or dot-shaped modules arranged on a grid pattern. 2-D symbologies also come in a variety of other visual formats.
Although 2D systems use symbols other than bars, they are generally referred to as barcodes as well. Barcodes can be read by optical scanners or scanned from an image by special software.
